Happy Birthday Daddy

We had a wonderful afternoon with our dear friend at a benefit for the Japanese Retirement Home Yu-Ai-Kai in Japan Town, San Jose. We went with my dear friend who once said that my Father told her that we should be friends and so we have been friends ever since. It was just that my Father had passed away years before he told her that we should be friends. We met at a knitting group and liked each other right away. When the knitters became a group and actually put together an address list. I noticed that my friend lived on the same street that my Sister lived on, when she was living in Campbell. At the next meeting, I asked her if she knew her and she said yes. She lived across the street from her and Jen had given her a child's obe. She said she knew where it was and would get it for me. It is one of the few things that I have of my Sister's. I have always felt that my friend was a gift from my Father and Sister. Today was my Father's Birthday and he would have enjoyed this day, so I did for him.

Waiting?

I was talking to some folks at the park today, while our grandchildren played together. They said that they had to wait a long time to be grandparents. Their daughter was finishing her Masters Degree while she was pregnant and was so glad she finished up before the baby came. Their daughter was forty years old. It got me thinking about the fertility troubles of couples today and wondering what eggs left in the refrigerator for forty years would be like. Or in the oven set at 98. degrees. Well at least they have their homes, cars, and education taken care of prior to the blessed event. Have we done this to our children? Complaining about how difficult it was to raise kids, pay a mortgage, forget school, no time for that. Can you imagine being 55 with a fifteen year old? It makes me tired just thinking of it.

Plucky

There is a new commercial on TV about kids finding it difficult to understand why grown ups do the things that they do and the Mom plucking her eyebrows is the example. I turned to Kevin and said, " I don't ever pluck my eyebrows, did you know that?" He said, "I have never seen you pluck your eye brows." I told him about how I always had to pluck my Mother's eye brows and that is why I never do mine. He replied, "Does that mean that you are a Mother Plucker?"

USPS

Wow, I was impressed the other day when a friend of mine showed me a letter written to her that looked very official asking her to pay $225.00 for a fee for being Incorporated. She is a small business owner, whose X husband had handled the Incorporation of her business, so she wrote a check and mailed it. A little while later she got the check back with a letter from the USPS that said they recovered her check and the group that sent the bill to her were defrauding people all over the place. That is so right and great of the USPS. So next time you are mad of the price of a stamp. Think of this and Thank your post person if you happen to see them.

Working for a Living

It was always taught in my family that a man or woman should follow their passion. That is you do what you love, your work will be more rewarding. That spending ones life working at a job they don't feel passionate about, may lead to a life incomplete. For almost forty years we have provided people with beautiful woodwork for their homes, offices, and businesses. We have dealt with so many different kinds of people over the years. Ninety-nine percent of the clients we have had are wonderful and many have become personal friends. But, like Mr. Triston, my music teacher in elementary school said, "No matter how many people clap, you will always remember the boo's. When you call a plumber, you should appreciate that they are going to deal with your crap, you can't do it, or you won't do it. When you call any laborer to your aide, please remember they are people just like you. When you call a craftsman to your home, treat them with the respect that they have earned. And please remember, they took an idea, created it from raw materials, and enhanced your life with it. They are not plumbers and they really don't need your crap.

Uncommon Currency

Once I tried to buy a burger with a 2 dollar bill and got the same response.
It was a long time ago, okay. I was hungry and it was all the cash I had left.
No ATM's, No Debit Cards. Okay I said it was a long time ago.

On Going Saga

So this morning, Kevin comes up from downstairs and wakes me up and says, "Marla is GONE!"
We come downstairs and look all over the house, no Marla. We notice that the window screen from the office window is 14' down in the driveway and the curtain is hanging out of the window. Not Good. The search is on. Kevin called Dan and Zach in to help look. I called Mimi's brother Dan and everyone started to look. The ranger at the park had seen her, but couldn't catch her. The guys drove everywhere.I was on-line posting to Next Door (our neighborhood watch), I called the police, the SPCA, her vet and posted on craigslist.  Eli and Mimi called to check on their precious pet and we had to tell them that she had escaped. They were frantic and ready to fly home immediately. We searched from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm when as if by Magic, Kevin found her running about a mile from our house. Needless to say, if we were tired before, we are realizing that you can be WAY more tired, really fast.

Wake Up

So last night our Newlyweds let us know that they were having fun and everything was going great. We were relieved to hear that all was well on their vacation. Their Dog Marla, missed them terribly and howled and moaned until Kevin had to go sleep on the couch just to calm her down. Needless to say we were pretty wiped out today. So I am sitting in the family room watching a Woody the Woodpecker show for the umpteenth time and scratching Joshua's back and resting my eyes and Joshua says, "Sit up Grandma, you better sit up." Smart Guy.

This is the sunset from the Honeymooners Suite.

Eli and Mimi Get Married

Eli and Mimi got married yesterday. It was a beautiful and magical evening. Eli has known Mimi since they were both little kids. Mimi was the sister of Eli's best friend Daniel and had a crush on Eli for a long time. Well now they are both sharing their dreams and starting a new life together as husband and wife. We wish them all the best this world has to offer.
